The Crafty is an expensive vaporizer clocking in at $339 that we believe requires some thorough research before purchasing. This is not a vaporizer for those looking for discreteness or to maximize portability. Instead the Crafty specializes in creating potent and tasteful clouds of vapor. Think of it almost like a desktop vaporizer in portable form. It’s very efficient and can work well with even a small amount of dry herb. We would recommend it for any heavy smokers or people who enjoy a deeper, solid high.
The Crafty (along with the Mighty) is probably one of the most potent portable vaporizers currently on the market. It tends to release heavier clouds, which means that it takes less time for you to get high. The flavor is amazing as well: fresh, deep and almost mesmerizing. It could be made a little smoother as it starts to feel a little heavier on larger pulls. With marijuana, the aroma is very beautiful but it can be a little overpowering. Most people are usually concerned about overdrawing with powerful vapes like this one, but a large amount of air restriction makes it actually pretty hard to do that with the Crafty. It can actually take about 10-12 seconds to inhale a decent amount and usually the vapor quantity tends to stay on the low side. We recommend experimenting with the temperatures to figure out what tastes best to you because the Crafty will insure that you’ll be able to get baked regardless.
The Crafty is very efficient when it comes to vapor quality. This is one of the few vaporizers with which we actually don’t recommend packing the loading chamber. If you use less dry herb it actually helps with the overall airflow and you can usually get tastier vapor. The vaporizer actually recognizes when you are inhaling by looking at temperature drops, but you usually need to take long pulls for it to properly register. By having less marijuana in the chamber you insure that these long pulls don’t get you too baked and are more valuable. The Crafty’s herb chamber actually can be packed with up to 0.3g which is a little on the higher side and it also helps that you don’t have to grind your herb super coarse for the vape to properly work. The vaporizer actually comes with a filling tool that lets you neatly pack the chamber with your herb, making it super convenient to use. So simply use a four piece grinder to grind your herbs and use the filling tool to load up the Crafty and start it up. The fact that you don’t have to put effort into preparing the herbs but still get great efficiency is very commendable.
Ease of Use
The Crafty is pretty easy to use. Like stated before, there’s a filing tool included so loading and unpacking herbs from the chamber can be done very efficiently. To fill it up, just unscrew the top and put in the herb and then screw the top back on. Everything else can be accessed from the power button which you simply have to press to start the heating process. There are only two temperature settings for the Crafty: the default and boost mode. You can easily switch to one or the other via the power button. You can also customize the two temperature settings via the app for your smartphone and the app itself is also very simple to use. That’s it! No other complicated process involved when using the vaporizer. Here’s a video explaining the process more in depth:
This is probably the one part of the Crafty we dislike the most. The fully charged battery will only last about 45 minutes, which is a little on the lower side. Most other portable vaporizers have the ability to last about 50-80 minutes so the Crafty barely makes the cut. It probably has to do with the fact that it uses a lot of power and takes a long time to cook your herbs. However a nice thing is that you can hook it up and charge it while using it at the same time. If you’re looking for something with similar efficiency and taste but a better battery life, we recommend checking out the FireFly 2.
The overall design does look sleek and appealing but it’s also very conspicuous. It might not be entirely obvious that it’s a vaporizer at first glance but it definitely will get some eye glances and sooner or later people are usually able to tell. That being said, the design itself does not give anything away and that’s a good thing. The Crafty does smell. A lot. The smell does tend to dissipate rather quickly but if you’re worried about roommates then this is not the vaporizer for you.
The dimensions for the Crafty are : 4.3 inches tall by 2.2” wide by 1.3” deep and it weighs 4.8oz (~136g) (from VapeWizard). While you can hold it comfortably in your hand, it is a little thick so it’s not easy fitting it into your pocket. If there’s nothing else in your pocket and you’re wearing jeans you should be able to tuck it in there but there will be a decent size bulge. It fits comfortably into any compartment or bookbag so it’s decent for traveling.
The build is extremely solid and the Crafty can easily last you an extremely long time if you continue to take care of it. The outside is made of hard plastic which usually won’t break or bend when you drop it. The inside is very well vented so that it never gets hot to hold. The oven also seems to be very well made as it usually can last you 100+ hours. There is a good tint and polish to all materials and all the addons which come with the vaporizer also seem to look very well made. If there’s one thing to complain about it’s the strength of the wire for charging the battery. Except for that, there are no concerns here: this is a very well made vaporizer.
