The Flowermate mini is a budget vaporizer, coming in at under $100. Yet it still delivers decent vapor quality while maintaining portability: unlike any other vaporizer in it’s price range. It has a good build quality and is also extremely easy to use, with an average battery for it’s size. If you’re younger and have to deal with parents or roommates, this is a pretty discrete vape that still manages to get the job done. However if you want to get a vaporizer that produces tasteful and consistent vapor, then this is not for you.
Though nothing to go crazy about, the mini definitely has decent vapor quality that tastes nice for the most part. The sessions are somewhat consistent with the first couple of hits containing the most flavor. The flavor significantly drops past about the 3rd hit but usually at lower temperatures you’ll still enjoy the mellow like vapor for the duration of the session. At higher temperatures, there is a drop in vapor quality as it gets heavier and blander. The attached glass stem that you can take hits from is actually very appreciated as it helps cool down the vapor, adding more flavor. It’s to be noted that even at it’s best (right after you load in fresh herbs) the Flowermate mini’s taste is not comparable to higher priced vaporizers such as the Pax, FireFly 2, etc.
The mini is not efficient so it’s generally not a vaporizer you’re looking to buy if you want to use the least amount of marijuana or other dry herbs. The charring to the leaves does not usually occur at a perfectly even level and it seems for the most part that the leaves located closer to the middle are less used. Therefore to get more out of your herbs I would recommend mixing the leaves between the sessions. Vapor production itself is at a decent level and you can get relatively large clouds with longer breaths, but this also tends to cycle through your herbs a lot quicker. There are three temperature settings included with the mini and we recommend transitioning from the lowest to middle one as your session progresses. There is an average draw resistance meaning that you have to pull in a bit to get that vapor. No worries though: in a couple of sessions you can get very high as the oven holds a decent 0.3g. We would recommend packing the chamber nearly full (70-90%) to get the best vapor quality to herb ratio. Heat up time for the lowest temperature is around a minute which is probably around the industry average.
Ease of Use
The FlowerMate series of vaporizers are probably some of the easiest to operate in the market. Their designs are very intuitive and the FlowerMate Mini is no exception. You simply have to pack the chamber with the herb of your choice and put the glass stem back on. Then clicking the silver button on the side starts the heating process for you. The light changes color as you transition from temperatures, and when it’s blinking the temperature is adjusting. Cleaning is pretty easy though you probably should clean the mini at least once a week. Maintainability on the other hand is a little bit tricky as the battery might die and the mouthpiece can tend to get beat up as time goes on. A nuisance is that you have no idea of knowing your current battery charge which makes it slightly harder to use and kept charged.
The Mini only contains one of the two 2600 mAh batteries embedded in other FlowerMate 5.0 models so the battery does tend to be a little on the lower side. At a medium temperature you’re going to get about 40-50 minutes of solid use and less at higher temperatures. The Mini also contains an automatic shut off feature after 5 minutes of inactivity so it’s nice to know that battery usage can’t be wasted. You can also use the unit when it’s 20% or more charge thanks to the USB pass it contains. Overall for the size, it’s battery life is definitely commendable and you shouldn’t have any issues even if you’re a moderate smoker. Heavy smokers might get a little annoyed because recharging it does take a couple of hours. It’s also cool to know that you can use the vape to charge your phone!
Being small, the FlowerMate Mini can fit comfortably in your hand. You can easily roll your fist around it concealing it completely. The small black design on the outside without big lights or any other huge logos make it pretty discrete. It is usually hard to tell what it is and most people think that it’s a portable charger which is pretty nice. The glass stem does increase the size and makes it look more like a vaporizer. The vapor smell is also a little on the lower side and the Mini is not as smelly as most other vaporizers. Regardless when you’re vaping there is always going to be some smell and the Mini is not an exception. Overall this is a very discrete vaporizer.
The FlowerMate mini can be pocketed easily, making this a very portable vaporizer. It can easily fit into any bags and the increase discreteness means that this is a good vape for travelling. Putting on the stem when you want to smoke makes things a little more cumbersome, but except that there are no issues. It does get relatively hot to hold but never uncomfortable which makes it great for passing along in groups for extended sessions. It also has a USB charger and can be plugged into your phone.
While it feels very light the Mini also feels sturdy and for this price range the build quality is surprisingly good. The fact that it doesn’t get too hot means that air isolation and the oven are also designed very well within the vape. You can have issues if you drop it multiple times on the glass stem as it can start to get a little cracked or jagged. Apart from that however, there are no issues and this vape can last a long time if you take time to clean it. It comes with chargers which also seem to be of decent build.
